Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is the specialty of dentistry and discipline of pathology that deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. This department offers it's diagnostic services for all the departments with frequent referrals from practicing clinicians. An exclusive Oral Pathology museum and many advanced equipment facilitates better teaching and learning in this institution for undergraduate and post graduate students. Significant research in oral cancer and other oral diseases are being carried out by the faculty.

Undergraduate teaching program
The subject is taught in 1st year as the subject Dental anatomy & Oral histology. In the 3rd year this subject is taught as Oral Pathology & Microbiology. 1st year students learn both the macroscopic and microscopic anatomy of tooth, oral mucosa, salivary glands and jaw. They also make themselves fundamentally clear about oral physiology. Carving of tooth anatomy in the practical classes helps in acquiring preclinical skills. Students are required to present seminars on topic allotted by using multimedia projector. They are assigned with models and posters which have to be submitted at their course end.
Postgraduate teaching program
The department offers a postgraduate training course of three years duration. The course is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching and research in the specialty of Oral Pathology and Microbiology by inculcating the knowledge through seminars, journal clubs, slide discussion, case presentation etc.
Objectives of postgraduate course in oral pathology and Microbiology:
At the end of three years of teaching programme the post graduate students should submit the dissertation and should acquire skills pertaining to the discipline as following.
Diagnostic skills in recognition of oral and maxillofacial diseases through microscopic evaluation of biopsy tissues in H&E staining, special stains and immunohistochemcal stains
Interpretation of hematological abnormality
Research skills in handling scientific questionnaire pertaining to oral and maxillofacial diseases
Thoroughness in understanding tooth and jaw anatomy through carving
Teaching and communication skills
