Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a specialty in dental surgery dealing with the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, diseases and defects of the head and neck region in both functional and aesthetic aspects.

This field carves its own space in the medical dictum by being a part in emergency care, maxillofacial trauma management, ICU care and symbiotic management of patients requiring multiple medical needs.

Exemplary patient care , outstanding results,, compassion and integrity are the cornerstone of oral surgery practice. It incorporates the latest technology in order to ensure the patients safety, minimize discomfort and guarantee a successful outcome.

The Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery led efficiently by Prof (Dr) Sobhan Mishra functions round the clock closely supported along with a highly efficient and patient friendly team comprising of three professors, three readers ,and one senior lecturer. Our team of highly skilled and dedicated surgeons understands the complexion of maxillofacial and neck region and they are involved and very passionate about the care of every patient with special surgical needs.

The Undergraduate Training

The department apart from training the undergraduate's basic training of simple and complex exodontia and minor oral surgery also provides guidance in emergency management in dental office and exposure to Major Cases in The OR and patient management in the wards.

The Post Graduate Training

The post graduate training programme started in 2013 currently with 3 PG seats provides able guidance through academics as well as practical exposure to minor as well as major cases to with Emergency duty, ICU duty along with necessary compulsory posting to allied medical departments like Plastic surgery, Oncosurgery , Neurosurgery In IMS & SUM Hospital.

The PG programme fulfils its all the goals for transformation of a PG student to an competent Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon in all aspects. There is a well equipped Minor OT and library stocked with oral and maxillofacial surgical books and both national and international journals are available for the faculty member and students.

The Jewel in the Crown being the own Major OT setup exclusively for Oral surgical Cases in IDS premises itself. Department of Oral & maxillofacial surgery, IDS also has a collaborative OT in IMS for cases requiring multi specialty and multi disciplinary approach.

Ranging from Minor surgical Cases to extensive major surgeries like Head and Neck cancer surgery and Micro vascular reconstruction the Oral and maxillofacial surgeries are performed with utmost care and comfort under the guidance of the staff and dedicated Post Graduate Students.
