SOA Summer Camp for school children to be made bigger

The 10-day Summer Camp for school children organised by Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) here to train them in different sport since May 6 concluded on Wednesday.

 Altogether 160 children studying in different schools within a five km radius of SOA’s Campus-2 joined the camp.

SOA Vice-President Ms. Saswati Das who was the chief guest at the valedictory function, expressed happiness over the organization of the camp for the last four years saying it had been beneficial for the children.

She also thanked the teachers of different schools and parents for encouraging the children to participate in the program. “The university is planning to make the event bigger with participation of more children in future,” she said.

Students studying in Classes V to X participated in the camp where they were imparted training in games like basketball, volley ball, table tennis, cricket, kho kho, kabaddi and chess. Chess was added to the list for the first time this year.

Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das, SOA’s Dean (Students’ Welfare), said that plans were afoot to increase the participation in the camp to 500 children in future. “The whole objective is to strengthen the society by inculcating healthy habits and discipline in children,” he said.

Ms. Sunita Barma, Sports Officer of the university, welcomed the chief guest and presented the camp report.
