Surgeons conduct critical surgery on pregnant woman at New SUM Campus At Phulnakhara

A team of surgeons at the second campus of the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital at Phulnakhara near here have successfully removed a tumour weighing one and half kg from a pregnant woman recently.

The surgery conducted by a team led by Dr. Smrutishree Sahu saved the life of the patient while conducting safe delivery.

Both the mother and baby were doing fine.

The surgery team delivered the baby boy through caesarean section while conducting a myeomectomy simultaneously to remove the uterine fibroid.

The patient's family had expressed its gratitude to the medical team for conducting the successful surgery.

The Dean of the new campus of IMS and SUM Hospital Prof. Arakhita Swain and Medical Superintendent Prof. Rajesh Kumar Lenka provided all support to the surgical team which comprised Dr. Siddharth Gautam of Pharmacological department, Paediatrician Dr. Soumya Ranja Samal, Dr. Pragya Nanda of Anesthesia department, Ms. Kamalini Mallick, Deputy Nursing Superintendent, Ms. Lipsa rani Ojha, priyanka swain OT nurse and Mr. Subhankar Mphapatra, pharmacist.

The new hospital was dedicated to the people by Odisha chief minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik on January 22 last.

The 2000-bed hospital located on NH-16 between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack has all the needed facilities to extend speciality and super speciality medical treatment to patients at affordable cost. It has 24-hour emergency service along with ICU, ICCU, PICU, NICU besides separate ICUs for cardio-thoracic and vascular surgery and hemato oncology patients.

The hospital also treats patients under the state government sponsored Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) scheme.
