World Mental Health Day observed at SUM Phulnakhara Campus

The subject of workplace environment and its effect on mental health figured at a special program organised at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital’s Campus 2 at Phulnakhara on the occasion of ‘World Mental Health Day’ on Wednesday.

Eminent psychiatrist and Advisor to the state government on mental health, Prof. Neelmadhav Rath, who attended the event as the chief guest, spoke on the need to promote positive mental health in various situations.

He elaborated on the various aspects of this year’s theme for the day –‘It’s time to prioritise mental health in the workplace.’

Prof. (Dr.) Prasenjit Mohanty, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Arakhita Swain, Dean of the institute and Dr. Siddharth Goutam, Assistant Medical Superintendent, underlined the need for maintenance of a cordial and stress free environment at the workplace for promotion of mental health.

The hospital’s Department of Psychiatry also organised an awareness program in which the department’s Professor and Head Dr. Bhabani Sankar Shit, Assistant Professors Dr. Abhishek Samal, Dr. Saiprasad Ray, Dr. Sujata Sahoo, Dr. Gyandendra Raghuvanshi, Dr. Sucharita Mishra and Senior Resident Dr. Sumaila Asif discussed different facts and myths about mental health issues at workplace and focused on positive mental health practices to lead a healthy and productive life.
